ST ANDREW’S UPDATE FOR WEEK COMMENCING 2nd MARCH
THIS SUNDAY – THE SUNDAY NEXT BEFORE LENT
09:00 Holy Communion (traditional language)
11:00 Holy Communion with hymns
The 11 a.m. service will be lived-streamed on our YouTube channel, St. Andrews Anglican Church Moscow. The order of service can be found here for those joining us online. We appreciate that those of you in Russia may experience difficulties logging onto YouTube; we are currently exploring alternative streaming options.
There will be Sunday School for children aged 6-12 and a play area in the Chapter Room for infants and toddlers, if they need to take a break from the service.
Everyone is invited to stay for refreshments after the service.
MASLENITSA/PANCAKE SUNDAY
To mark the approach of Lent, we will be having a pancake party after the 11 a.m. service this Sunday. Everyone is welcome to join us for this wonderful opportunity for fellowship. If you have not signed up to bring something, please consider bringing your favourite pancake topping to share. We will also be having a Biblical-themed quiz, so come and test your knowledge!
PALM CROSSES
Do you still have your palm cross from last year? If so, please bring it to church on Sunday. Every year, we burn old palm crosses to make the ash for the service on Ash Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY SERVICES IN LENT
During Lent, we will be resuming our Wednesday evening services. On Ash Wednesday (5th March) we will have a service of Holy Communion with imposition of ashes; on subsequent Wednesdays, we will have reflections based on the Stations of the Cross.
WELCOME TO OUR NEW SUFFRAGAN BISHOP!
Our new Suffragan Bishop, Andrew Norman, was consecrated by Archbishop Stephen at a beautiful service in Canterbury Cathedral on Thursday and will be installed at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Gibraltar this Sunday at 11 a.m. (local time). The service will be live-streamed on the Holy Trinity YouTube channel, if you would like to watch. Please pray for Bishop Andrew and his wife Amanda that they may spread Christ’s light and love in our Diocese.
CONFIRMATION
If you are interested in being confirmed, or learning more about what confirmation involves, please see Fr. Arun. He will be starting a preparation course after Easter and we hope to have a bishop visit us for the confirmation service later in the year.
LAVOCHKA
The Lavochka – our second-hand clothes stores, which raises money for MPC social outreach programmes – will be re-opening soon. We are always in need of additional volunteers, so if you would like to help, either in the shop or sorting through donations, please see Nicolette.
SIMPLE SOUP LUNCHES
During Lent (from 9th March onwards) we will be holding our Simple Soup lunches every week, in order to raise funds for charitable causes. We have a loyal team, who regularly make soup and provide bread and cheese, but if you would like to join in and help spread the load, please see Liz.

Please bring a kulich to church on Easter Sunday or, if you are not able to be with us on Easter day, to any of the services during Holy Week.
Every year, we collect Russian Easter cakes (kulichi) to distribute to those in need. This year, we will be sharing the joy of Easter with the Noah refuge centres, who provide accommodation and help to the homeless, the elderly, and the handicapped. (https://dom-noi.ru/) The Noah centres not only provide immediate help to those in need, but also assist those who have fallen on hard times to rebuild their lives and to re-integrate into society. Please bring a kulich to church on Easter Sunday or, if you are not able to be with us on Easter day, to any of the services during Holy Week.
ST ANDREW’S UPDATE FOR WEEK COMMENCING 13th APRIL
THIS SUNDAY – PALM SUNDAY
09:00 Holy Communion (traditional language)
11:00 Holy Communion with distribution of palms
The 11 a.m. service will be lived-streamed on our YouTube channel, St.
SIMPLE SOUP LUNCHES
During Lent, we are holding our Simple Soup lunches every week in order to raise funds for charitable causes. This week’s soup is in aid of the Lighthouse Fund, which we supported last year during our Harvest-Advent appeal. The Lighthouse Fund works with refugees, providing clothes and household items, food, legal, and psychological help, medical care, assistance with job-hunting, and housing for people with disabilities. If you would like to contribute to this excellent cause, please make sure you bring CASH with you on Sunday, as we are not able to accept card payments for our charity appeals.
EASTER SUNDAY
Easter is only one week away! As ever, we will be having our traditional bring-and-share lunch after the service. If you are able to contribute food or drink, please see Liz.
EASTER KULICHI
As in previous years, we will be collecting Russian Easter cakes (kulichi) to distribute after the main service on 20th April to those in need. This year, we will be sharing the joy of Easter with Noah refuge centres, who provide accommodation and help to the homeless, the elderly, and the handicapped. SAVE THE DATE!
Our next pub quiz in aid of Mary’s Meals will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, 21st April at Paddy’s Irish Bar (metro Belorusskaya). Please join us for a hugely enjoyable evening, which helps to raise funds for an excellent cause.
LAVOCHKA
The Lavochka – our second-hand clothes stores, which raises money for MPC social outreach programmes – is open for business on Friday afternoons and after the main Sunday service. We are always in need of additional volunteers, so if you would like to help, either in the shop or sorting through donations, please see Nicolette.
