Our Christian journey begins when we receive. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, open ourselves to receive his love and his forgiveness and his new life, and in response to his love commit ourselves to following him. We don’t need to be good enough for God, or religious enough. The only thing that a person needs to do in order to become a Christian and begin the Christian journey is to repent of their sins (say sorry for them, and choose to irrevocably turn from them) and receive baptism – to allow themselves to have water poured on their head and be washed in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
In this image the person opens their hands and lifts up their head in order to receive, to welcome the water. And the cleansing, life giving water merges with the fire of the Holy Spirit, which comes into them.
